For Folk’s Sake: It’s Christmas:
This release by For Folk’s Sake is in aid of the Integrated Cancer Centre at King’s College, London, which provides cancer care and is at the cutting edge of research into the disease.
So, basically, you get some amazing music and you get to help in the battle against cancer. Now, that sounds like a very good deal to me.
Cancer killed my godmother. She was the niece of my Dad’s Mum. She had her moments and her interesting quirks. But she was there for me while she was alive and she’s been there for me after she died. It is never about money. I would throw all my wealth into the river if it meant my loved ones were returned and protected from harm. But the universe doesn’t work like that. My godmother’s gift to me was the means to study, the means to travel, the means to go out and enjoy myself and the means to better myself and I shall not forget that.
I sat in the garden of the care home with my godmother just before she died. I remember being very conscious of the fact, for all the times people have spoken about my strength, my abilities and my power, that there was not a thing I could do to stop a disease from practically eating someone I loved, family, blood to blood.
Thousands of families up and down this country and up and down any other country have gone through the same, similar or worse with cancer and anything we can do to help those involved in the battle against it and the care and compassion shown to those who are going through it and their families is well worth it.
